We've seen this before with Alvarez Mccoy and now Loana and Mark are doing it again although this time they claim to be with the Marriott.  I have contacted the Marriott and I will update if there is any further information.  Though the Marriott was surprised they were being used in a scam, they did not seem to be able to do much with the information aside from tell me it was not a legit job.  Be safe and do not trust any job that asks you to pay before you get paid- not worth it~!

  3. Now how exactly are the scamming? I just got the same email from mark from Marriott different kind of job but asked for no $ up front and wanted to get started right away. So I googled and found this and called him out. Needless to say he stopes texted me so how would he have scammed me if I continues to speak to him?

    1. The SCAM works in two parts. First he asks you to print checks from your computer. The checks you print are fake. You send them out and are held liable for the damages. The second part is after you do all this hard work, he will tell you to print a check from your printer and cash it yourself. This will cover the "expenses" e.g printer and paper; although what happens is the check bounces and you pay the bounce fee and are held liable legally for printing fake checks.

If he has not mentioned being his personal "payroll accountant" then this is not the same SCAM and it could be different. Either way, I would not trust any person that asks me to print checks from my home or cash any check/money order and wire them back money. Thank you for your comment and for reading this blog. Good luck to you.

    1. I couldn't agree more Megan. I wish they wouldn't waste our time. There are people out there looking for real job opportunities... why are they making our lives harder than they need to be? Thank you for your response.

  5. I get these all the time. I have one going right now 3/5/13. Sent via text it is for $300.00 a week to post advertising for Marriott International. The phone # is coming from is 541-357-7135, South of Portland OR. Wants to know if I have a high speed computer w/ a yahoo instant messenger name. I know it's a scam because the person is mentioning Western Union and Money Gram, plus their English is piss poor! Feel free to call and harass this person!

  8. I have received several e-mails in response to this one. I decided to look this up to make sure it would be the right decision. The first one did not list what materials would be needed and the conversation was of great concern being they didn't speak well. I'm sure you don't have to speak perfect English, but I would imagine that The Marriott (this one was not Marriott) would like to know that their business advocates would be better at their communication skills. I kept on asking them to give me time to get things together and they would suggest going to the local stores. After going to several stores I realized that they stopped offering these items due to the scams out there, but was still on a mission.

Then I received one from Marriott (Loana), She listed everything that was needed and expressed 1,000 a month. I decided to look up Loana with Marriott and came across this blog. (THANK YOU FOR THESE BLOGS)

So I understand there is great concerns with these. As I placed an order with Office Max, they called me to verify the purpose of the ink due to the scams. I have started my own business and thought this is perfect so now the items I have purchased will be for my own business.

I'm sorry for those who have gotten caught up in these scams, but I also hope there are lessons learned with out committing any crimes.

Once again, Thank you for this blog.

p.s. Yes, I posted my own post on Craigslist and they responded to that. It's too bad that Craigslist is getting a bad rep due to the lack of control on being a legit offer or not.

  10. Has anyone received the job offer from a Mike Lewis, phone #801-742-7058? The job is from Marriott International ad company, "re-posting craigslist ads about caregivers, housekeeper, health care and other general jobs" for $400 per week with salary paid via Western union, money gram, PayPal check or cash sent via mail. He has not asked for any money (yet) but is being very evasive about specific job requirements, and is not providing me with any company info, Web address, main phone # etc.
seems like a scam to me after text messaging with him for about the last hour trying to get more info from him. He told me to Google the company ... seems a little unprofessional.
